Some Questions Answered

What is Spiritual Healing?
It is the transfer, via the Healer, of healing energy from a natural source within the Universe.

How do Healers work?
Healers have the ability to link with this energy and ‘channel’ it to you.  A Healer’s objective is to restore good health through the balancing and harmonising of mind, body and spirit – the three elements of your being.

This is a simple and gentle process.  Healers will usually begin either by sitting in front of you and briefly holding your hands or by standing behind you and gently placing their hands upon your shoulders.  Others may begin by placing their hands upon your head.  Such methods of initial contact assist the Healer to attune with you and the source of the healing energy.  Once attuned they will place their hands on (or close) to various parts of your body as and when inspired.  This will usually (but not always) include the area which you feel is giving you trouble.  The Healer will be sensitive to your modesty at all times.  You should tell your Healer at the outset if you do not wish to be touched.

What do I do? Will I feel anything?
During the healing treatment you should try to relax as much as possible.  The Healer may help you in this through breathing and visualisation techniques, whilst also making sure you are in a comfortable seated/lying position.  Try not to be anxious and to have an open mind.  A positive attitude will help you to be more receptive to the healing process.

You may feel a sensation of heat or coldness emanating from the Healer’s hands.  You may also feel a slight tingling or trembling.  You are likely to experience a feeling of peace and calm enveloping you as the treatment progresses.  Hopefully, at the end of the session you will be relieved of tension, relaxed, more supple and have an easing of pain.

How long should I have healing?
Sometimes one treatment is sufficient, but it is often progressive and the results are gradual.   Do not become discouraged if early results are not forthcoming.  You may begin to realise you are calmer, healthier and more confident.  It is rare for anyone to attend for a period on a regular basis without benefiting.

Will Healing cure me and should I tell my doctor?
No person, doctor or Healer can guarantee to cure illness and our Code of Conduct forbids us to claim that a cure can be effected.  Healing complements the treatment provided by your doctor.  It is NOT an alternative to it.

Two further elements of the Code of Conduct relate specifically to the relationship between you and your doctor:

  • A Healer must always ask whether you have consulted your doctor about your medical condition and formally advise you to do so if you have not.

  • A Healer is forbidden to countermand the advice or medical treatment prescribed by your doctor or advise upon it.

We would like you to tell your doctor that you are receiving Healing.  A growing number of doctors nowadays even refer their patients to a Healer or may have Healers working in their practices.  Many hospitals and nursing homes have Healers working in them too.

Can I receive Healing if I have a heart pacemaker fitted?
Yes, but you must inform your Healer before they start.  They will make sure they keep their hands at least six inches away from your chest to avoid interfering with the working of the pacemaker.

Can Healing help the terminally ill?
Yes.  Pain is often alleviated and for many a sense of peace and tranquillity is experienced.  The fear of death may also be dispelled.

The bereaved also often find much comfort and strength from receiving Healing.

Are records or personal details of patients kept?
Our Code of Conduct and Professional Indemnity Insurance conditions demand that we do so.  A brief account of your condition is recorded and a report made at each subsequent visit concerning progress, etc.  These records are regarded as strictly confidential and the information is accessible only to the Healer/s and patient.

Can I receive Healing at home?
Yes.  Talk to the Healer about it and they will arrange things for you if at all possible.

Do I pay for Healing and how much will I pay?
Many Healers do not charge.  Others will accept a donation towards their expenses – travel, premises rental, etc. – and some charge a fee.  It is sensible to raise this question with the individual Healer at the outset.

Can I stop having Healing when I want to?
The decision is entirely yours.  Healers take a deep interest in their patient’s welfare and well-being.  It is therefore courteous to advise them if you decide to discontinue, particularly if they operate a timed appointment system.

How can I be sure the Healer is registered and qualified?
Ask if he or she is a Healer member of an association which is in direct or associated membership of the Confederation of Healing Organisations.  Request sight of their membership card which registered Healers will be able to produce.

This proof will ensure that the Healer has been fully trained, will be working to a mandatory Code of Conduct and will carry Third Party and Professional Indemnity Insurance cover.  This is your safeguard.
